Mary asks…

I am taking yoga classes for my senior paper which also requires that i do 5 hours of community service with?

my learned skill! Does anyone know what i can do or where i could teach yoga?! Please help!!<3

Critique answers:

Try looking at a local gym or YMCA and see if they will allow you to use an extra room for space.I know most YMCA’s and gyms will give you the space if you just ask. Let them know what this is for (school) and if it works out, it could be an easy job for you with good money.

If that is not an option, look at trying to have a yoga class at a local park. Set fliers up in and around town (if you get the ymca/gym/park) setting up fliers will be good.

After you do your 5 hours (whice really isn’t a lot from a big perspective, maybe you can have a weekly class and make a little extra money)

good luck. See what your town has to offer :)

Lisa asks…

taking yoga classes for the first time?

I have been under a tremendous amount of stress lately so i thought yoga might help, also i m very stiff and out of shape. I went yesterday for the first time ever and oh my God! it was amazing, i have never felt any better! anyways, i really want to get more flexible, i m a female by the way, now the class is only offered once a week for 1 hour and 25 min, is that enough? or shall I be doing something at home?
Thank you

Hey Amani,
So wonderful to hear you enjoyed your first class. Just like with anything, the more you practice, the sooner you see the benefits. However, even practicing just once a week you will see the benefits overtime. When I first started practicing yoga, I took once class every Sunday morning and eventually overtime I saw a definite improvement in my strength, flexibility and balance, which in turn meant I found the poses easier to do so I try harder modifications.
If you are up for it, you can always practice at home as well. The great thing about home practice is that you can modify the routine to what you want to do. You can follow the general sequence that you do at the class, but then add other poses in as well.
Best wishes with your practice,

Mandy asks…

How can I get started with yoga without classes?

Critique answers:

There are many videos and DVDs available. That’s all I’ve ever used and I enjoy them a lot. I prefer Yoga Journals workouts and Rodney Yee or Patricia Walden (both have good beginner workouts).

Look up beginner yoga workouts online and see what workouts you find. You can probably even get the DVDs pretty cheap off eBay.

Also, check out youtube for yoga workouts. They may have some (they have other fitness workouts).

Enjoy!
